Deutsche Telekom wants Disney+ deal

Deutsche Telekom is reportedly in talks with Disney for distribution of Disney+.

According to Bloomberg, the operator views an exclusive deal with Disney for the streamer – which launches in the country on March 24 – will serve to fend off growing competition from Vodafone.

Speaking to the outlet, Deutsche Telekom board member Michael Hagspihl said: “I’m sure we’ll reach a reasonable outcome. Our goal is to be the platform that aggregates the most partners.”

A deal to bring Disney+ to Magenta TV, which has 3.7 million subscribers, would be considered a coup for Deutsche Telekom.

Vodafone has been ramping up its presence in Germany, largely based around its €19 billion deal with Liberty Global which included Unitymedia. It currently has 13.6 million TV customers across the country.

Building up to launches in major European countries including the UK, France and Germany, Disney is in the process of signing a range of distribution deals.

First to be announced was a deal with Canal+ in France. The deal means consumers in France will have to deal with the pay TV operator to access the service or download it directly via Disney+.

In the UK, Sky has also agreed a deal to bring the streamer to its Sky Q platform.
