Russian telco Rostelecom has named five suppliers of digital interactive set-top boxes from whom it will order a total of 500,000 receivers. The company said that the competitive tender for the order had enabled it to reduce its procurement budget by 24% or RUB580 million (€14 million).
The boxes will be supplied by Russian companies UZ Promsvyaz, CompuTel, SmartLabs, Promzakazy and ES and FC International.
The order follows Rostelecom’s reorganization of its procurement process to create a single centralised structure.
Rostelecom currently has about 1.5 million digital TV subscribers. The company offers a range of services including DVR, video-on-demand and integration with social networks.
