Fastweb adds subscribers

Italian ISP Fastweb added 60,000 net new subscribers during the first quarter of 2009, giving it a total of 1,542,300 at the end of March, up 11% year-on-year. Revenues for the quarter reached €444.3m, up 14% year-on-year. EBITDA was €121.5m, a rise of 8%.

German cable operator Unitymedia has chosen technology provider Empirix’s Hammer XMS product to monitor its voice-over-IP network. The rollout of Hammer XMS at Unitymedia was managed by Telenet Kommunikationssysteme, Empirix’s distribution and integration partner for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Volia launches English language teaching channel

Ukrainian cable operator Volia has launched a new English language teaching channel, English Club TV, on its digital tier. The channel will initially be broadcast on a trial basis. Volia Premium TV subscribers will need to update their programme guides to receive the service. 

UKTV goes Home

UK channel provider UKTV, owned by Virgin Media and BBC Worldwide, has launched the latest in its series of rebranded channels, Home, focusing on homes and lifestyle. The channel, available on cable operator Virgin Media, BSkyB’s digital satellite platform and digital terrestrial pay-TV service Top Up TV, occupies the slot formerly taken by UKTV Style.

TVI maintains rating lead but sees ad revs tumble
