EchoStar looks to Asian expansion with AsiaSat

Satellite operator AsiaSat has formed a joint venture with US DTH pay-TV operator EchoStar to deliver a DTH service to Taiwan and other selected markets in Asia. The new service will broadcast from AsiaSat 4 at 122° East. It is expected to launch in the second half of this year. 

TeliaSonera expands Norwegian footprint

TeliaSonera’s subsidiary NextGenTel has acquired the broadband and voice-over-IP business of Tele2 Norway for NOK100m (€11m) in an all-share deal. Tele2 Norway has about 97,000 broadband subscribers in Norway, of which about 23,000 also take VOIP services. The move will give NextGenTel a 22% share of the Norwegian ADSL market.

Volia launches low-cost web hosting

Ukrainian cable operator Volia has launched a new low-cost web-hosting service aimed at small and medium-sized businesses and non-profit organisations. Volia is offering the service, with technical support, from UAH199 (€19) a month. The company is also offering service-level agreements to customers, which it says is a first in the Ukrainian market.
