ITV mulls switch to pay-TV for digital channels

British commercial broadcaster ITV is considering turning its bouquet of digital channels from free-to-air to digital and has had initial exploratory talks with satellite pay-TV operator BSkyB, according to a report in The Guardian newspaper. Akado launches multiroom

Russian pay-TV platform Akado has launched a multiroom service for its digital TV customers. Subscribers to the service can connect an unlimited number of TVs at a cost of RUB100 (€2.30) for each additional connection. Customers will also need to buy new set-top boxes for each TV.

Global ISP SkyVision has signed a multi-year contract for capacity on Eutelsat’s W2A satellite for pan-African and Middle East connectivity. SkyVision will lease one transponder on the newly-launched W2A satellite, located at 10° East. The company provides services for global enterprises, NGOs and ISPs.

Mediaset aims to expand pay-TV presence

Italian broadcaster Mediaset is eyeing 15% of the local pay-TV market in the next five years. The Silvio Berlusconi-controlled broadcaster, which operates a number of free-to-air and pay-TV channels and services, is targeting the development to compete with News Corp-owned satellite pay-TV operator Sky Italia. Newtec announces 50,000 broadband satellite shipments

Broadband satellite equipment supplier Newtec has said it has now shipped 50,000 of its Sat3Play broadband access terminals in Europe. SES Astra’s Astra2Connect broadband service is the major customer for Newtec’s terminals.
