ABC to remake YouTube web series for TV

US network ABC is to remake web series Recipe Rehab, marking the first time that a series that launched on one of YouTube’s original channels has been reversioned for traditional broadcast TV.

The deal was struck by production company Trium Entertainment and YouTube channel Everyday Health and the show will air across 200-affiliate stations on Saturday mornings.

This comes a year after the Google-owned service launched its channels initiative, encouraging professional producers to create original content for the site.

“Recipe Rehab is the latest example of how creators are now harnessing the combined attributes of TV and the web to build scaled, engaged audiences,” said Alex Carloss, YouTube’s global head of original programming.

Cooking format Recipe Rehab, which was created by Mark Koops, who has worked on shows including NBC’s The Biggest Loser and Gordon Ramsay’s Masterchef, pits two chefs against each other as they attempt to make unhealthy snacks healthier.
