Former Quibi CTO hired by Cameo

Rob Post, the former chief technology officer or short-lived streaming service Quibi, has found a new home at Cameo in the same role.

Cameo is a platform which allows famous personalities to sell personalised short video messages, with celebrities on the platform including Dick Van Dyke, Floyd Mayweather and basketball legend Dennis Rodman. It claims to have generated about US$100 million in 2020, with the average ‘order value’ (read: the cost for a message) at around US$70. It added more than 10,000 new personalities to the platform, with the top 150 said to be earning at least US$100,000 per year via Cameo.

The company now has a new CTO in the form of Post, who previously spent 10 years at Hulu including five as its engineering VP. He joined Quibi in September 2018, but is one of many professional refugees who was seeking a new home following the service’s shuttering in December.

Post is the headline name in a list of new c-suite hires. The other appointments include Deb Schwartz as chief financial officer, Mel Steinbach as chief people officer, and Brian Frank as chief operating officer.

For its part, Quibi is reportedly close to selling off its vast array of short-form content to Roku.
