After HBO doc boss Sheila Nevins stepped down after 38 years this week, Nancy Abraham and Lisa Heller have been named executive VPs of HBO documentary and family programming.
Nevins, who has overseen the launch of Alex Gibney’s Scientology doc Going Clear, will officially step down in March 2018.
Abraham and Heller, who are both currently senior VPs of HBO documentary and programming, will take responsibility for development, production and acquisition of HBO documentaries and family programs.
Abraham joined the division in 1995 and became SVP in 2009. She has served as programming executive for Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds and Cries from Syria.
Heller joined the department in 2000 from PBS doc series POV, where she was an executive producer. She became SVP in 2012.
“With Nancy and Lisa leading a stellar team, there will be a continued commitment to the excellence that was a hallmark of Sheila’s tenure,” said Casey Bloys, president of HBO programming.
“Our viewers can look forward to a compelling slate of programming.”
