Deutsche Telekom to offer UEI remote for Apple TV service

Deutsche Telekom will offer the Universal Electronics-designed Apple TV 4K remote control as a part of its Apple TV service.

Announcing the partnership with the device maker, Deutsche Telekom said that the remote was designed specifically for MVPDs and will integrate fully with its MagentaTV service. The white-labelled remote will be branded to MagentaTV, and feature a specific button for jumping into the service’s EPG.

Steve Gutman, UEI’s Senior Vice President of Global Sales, Subscription Broadcast, said: “It was a great experience working with Deutsche Telekom to provide its customers with the Apple TV remote. DT is one of the first providers to offer this remote and we look forward to enhancing the television experience for consumers across the globe with our Apple TV remote, one of our most exciting new offerings.”

Initially revealed in late 2020, the remote combines Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connectivity with Infrared to connect with the Apple TV while also being able to control TVs and audio devices. Other features of the remote which are absent from the Apple’s first-party remote include directional and select buttons, a channel changer, a TV guide button and a mute button. The controller also features backlit keys and also keeps the in-built microphone to interact with Siri.
