Youth-skewed multichannel network Fullscreen has acquired digital studio and content creator Rooster Teeth.
The deal, financial terms of which were not disclosed, will help Fullscreen “accelerate its expansion with Rooster Teeth’s large audience and content production capabilities, both live and animated”, the firm said in a statement.
As part of the deal, Fullscreen will support Rooster Teeth’s existing series, which include Achievement Hunter and the long-running Red Vs. Blue, and development of premium formats.
The news comes after Otter Media, the joint venture vehicle of The Chernin Group and AT&T, acquired a majority stake in Fullscreen, the leading global MCN by subscriber numbers.
“Rooster Teeth is one of the strongest and most authentic media brands in the world amongst 18-34 year old, male-skewing audiences,” said George Strompolos, Fullscreen CEO and founder. “The combination of its massive reach, unique creative voice and insanely powerful community makes it a perfect match forFullscreen.”
Rooster Teeth was founded 11 years ago by Matt Hullum and Burnie Burns. Beside having successful YouTube channels and programmes, it is also a podcast creator and a subscription platform.
“At Rooster Teeth, we have a long history of creating the best digital content in the industry,” said Burns, Rooster Teeth’s creative director. “With Fullscreen, we look forward to continuing that tradition in even bigger and better ways.”
He and CEO Hullum will remain in their posts following the close of the deal, operating as a Fullscreen subsidiary in Austin, Texas.
