This year’s MTV Europe Music Awards from Glasgow is to be broadcast simultaneously on MTV and Channel 5 for the first time, following MTV Europe-owner Viacom International Media Networks’ (VIMN) acquisition of the UK terrestrial channel from Northern & Shell.
The decision means that the show will be available to view free-to-air on Channel 5 in more than 11 million Freeview homes, as well as via MTV or Channel 5 in UK TV households which subscribe to Sky, Virgin Media, BT Vision or Talk Talk. The awards show will be broadcast on both channels with a one-hour delay.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to give access to the MTV EMA to the widest possible UK audience and let everyone share in the excitement of one of the hottest nights in music. It’s another example of how our high-quality content can be shared and promoted between our channels to the benefit of all,” said David Lynn, President, VIMN UK.
