Rakuten TV launches Kids TV channel

AVOD platform Rakuten TV has announced the launch of the new Kids TV channel.

As the title would suggest, the channel will offer a range of children’s content and launches in partnership with Aardman Animations, Milimages, Motion Pictures and Lingokids.

Rakuten TV is available in more than 42 countries, with the company claiming to be the first VOD platform in Europe to combine TVOD and AVOD products.

The European launch of Rakuten TV was announced at MIPCOM 2019.

The operator notes that this launch will “considerably extend its current catalogue within its free section,” with the channel launching with more than a hundred episodes of titles such as Shaun The Sheep, Molang and Glumpers.

This is the latest channel from Rakuten following the October 2019 launches of Rakuten Movies and Rakuten Stories.

Rakuten TV CEO and founder Jacinto Roca said; “It is a really exciting time for us to be able to offer our audiences an increased range of free content. As viewers’ interests and viewing habits change, so does our strategy to keep up with our commitment to provide them with a variety of compelling and entertaining titles through our acquisitions and original programming on these dedicated channels”.
