Telenet grows digital base and arrests basic decline

Belgian cable operator Telenet increased customers across its main product lines and reduced the rate of loss of basic cable TV customers in the fourth quarter.

Telenet signed up 24,500 net new subscribers for broadband internet, 19,900 for fixed telephony and 36,900 for digital TV in the quarter, as well as a record 180,700 post-paid mobile subscribers. The company now has 521,600 active mobile customers more than double the number for 2011. Telenet said it had seen continued strong take-up of its King and Kong rate plans.

The company lost 11,300 basic cable TV customers in the quarter, the lowest net loss rate for three years.

Telenet posted full-year revenue of €1.489 billion, up 8% year-on-year, with adjusted EBITDA of €777.8 million, up 8%.
