Comcast Technology Solutions launches managed terrestrial distribution service

Comcast Cable-owned Comcast Technology Solutions has launched a managed terrestrial distribution service designed to support the rollout of services by pay TV operators across the US. 

Large numbers of regional operators currently use Comcast Technology Solutions for content acquisition and distribution via a satellite-based managed service that has been in place for decades.

The new terrestrial service is designed to help operators reduce expenses and provide a path to IP video, according to the comapny.

MTC Cable, based in Margaretville, New York, is among the first operators looking to benefit from the new Managed Terrestrial Distribution service.

According to Comcast Technology Solutions, the service enables operators to cut costs by reducing headend infrastructure costs, gives them access to upgraded technology through Comcast’s significant ongoing investment in advanced infrastructure, supports a hybrid-IP approach and gives them access to a broader channel line-up.
