Freesat sues Amazon for trademark infringement

UK free-to-air satellite operator Freesat is suing Amazon for trademark infringement over its use of the Freetime brand used by Freesat for its advanced internet-connected TV service. 

Freesat has filed a suit in the High Court alleging that Amazon, which recently launched an offering branded as Kindle Freetime, has violated its trademark. Kindle Freetime streams kids TV shows and movies over the web to Kindle tablets.

“Freesat has issued a legal claim against Amazon EU SARL, Amazon Media EU SARL and Amazon.co.uk (“Amazon”) in respect of Amazon’s infringement of our rights to Freetime, a trade mark registered in the UK by Freesat,” said Freesat.

“Freetime is an award-winning internet-connected television service that is an increasingly important part of Freesat’s business. As this is a legal matter, we are unable to comment further.”
