Germany’s pay TV and IP networks provider, M7 Group, has extended its partnership with Austrian telecommunications network operator, Liwest.

In addition to its cable TV offering of Free-TV, Pay-TV and foreign language programmes, Canal+ owned M7 will also supply the network operator with full IPTV licensing rights including advanced functions.

Under the deal, Liwest can expand its IPTV platform with additional TV channels in HD quality, which will enable an enhanced viewing experience with interactive TV add-on functions. The advanced features include time-shifted TV via restart and replay, TV recordings (NPVR) and multiscreen use on mobile devices.

According to Liwest, the company provides television, high-speed internet and fixed-line telephony to more than 145,000 customers in Upper Austria and western Lower Austria via its cable and fibre-optic network and its own 5G transmitters.

DI Dr. Stefan Gintenreiter, MBA, Managing Director of Liwest, said: “In the future, the TV signals will be connected to our head-end stations via the M7 live stream node in Vienna using a fibre optic connection. This is another step in the digital transformation, which will bring our customers not only greater security of supply but also an expanded range of programmes on Next TV.”

“Even greater programme diversity in HD quality with interactive functions for contemporary, flexible television are clear added values for Liwest’s IPTV platform. We are pleased that Upper Austria’s largest cable network operator has also chosen M7’s extensive licence portfolio for its growth in the IPTV sector,” said Marco Hellberg, MD of Eviso Germany GmbH, the M7 Business Partner in Germany.
