Warner Bros. Discovery reportedly looking to launch sports hub on Max

Warner Bros. DiscoveryWarner Bros. Discovery (WBD) plans to launch a sport tier on its streaming service Max, which will debut with coverage of the Major League Baseball (MBL) playoffs, according to a report on CNBC.

The company will broadcast games from leading US sport franchises including the MLB, National Basketball Association (NBA) and National Hockey League (NHL). The sport hub will also air the student sports athletic competition National Collegiate Athletics.

CNBC also reported the sport hub will be named after company’s sports news trade Bleacher Report and will provide content of highlights and interviews from the outlet.

Sources told the US trade it comes as the WBD aims to expand its reach among younger audiences.

Last month, WBD launched its joint venture with telco BT, TNT Sports in the region and Ireland. The sports platform which also launched on discovery+ replaced BT Sport.

TNT Sports continues to deliver live sports coverage previously aired by BT Sport including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Europa Conference League, Gallagher Premiership Rugby, Heineken Champions Cup, EPCR Challenge Cup, MotoGP, Cricket, UFC, Boxing and WWE.

However, it is noted only NBA games which are aired on TNT Sports will be available on Max. The new sports tier is expected to launch on Max by next year.

WBD have declined to comment on the news.
