Premier Sports Ireland and Nova Greece secure Wimbledon rights

Viaplay-owned Premier Sports in Ireland and United Group-owned Nova in Greece are among the latest media groups to announce deals to broadcast the Wimbledon tennis championships.

The Premier Sports deal gives the Viaplay-owned outfit rights to cover the event on its linear channels Premier Sports 1 and 2 as well as providing three red button continuous coverage court feeds for the duration of the event.

Premier Sports Founder Michael O’Rourke, said: “Wimbledon is one of the most iconic sports events in the calendar and we’re delighted to be in a position to bring comprehensive live coverage to our audiences. With up to five separate live match feeds available daily we’ll provide real choice for tennis fans during this fantastic fortnight.”

Paul Davies, Head of Broadcast, Production and Media Rights at the All England Club, said: “We are delighted to enter into this agreement with Premier Sports in Ireland. Their extensive coverage plans, including red button coverage, ensures fans of Wimbledon in Ireland will be well served.”

United Group-owned Greek pay TV operator Nova has retained rights to the Wimbledon tennis championships.

Nova has secured media rights to broadcast Wimbledon for a further two years for its subscribers. This year’s championship, which begins on Monday, July 3, features the participation of Greek players Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari.

In Greece the tournament will be broadcast exclusively on Novasports, through the EON+ service.

Nova will air the event through its three Novasports channels

EON+ subscribers will be able to access the championship with packages ranging from €25 in price.
