Digi sees solid growth at home and abroad

Romanian service provider Digi/RCS&RDS grew its domestic pay TV and broadband base at a respectable rate in the year to June, but its strongest growth surge came from new market Spain, where it operates mobile services in competition with local players.

Digi had 5.27 million pay TV customers in Romania at the end of June, up 6.3% year-on-year. Broadband customers stood at 3.96 million, up 11.9%.

While Digi also saw strong mobile growth in its home market, Spain provided a significant surge, with the company’s mobile base in that market growing by 29% to 3.43 million and broadband growing by 101% to 658,000.

Overall, Digi counted revenue-generating units of 19.4 million at the end of June, up 15.3%, or 2.6 million units.

In Romania, Digi had 14.7 million RGUs, up 9.6% year-on-year, with additions across mobile and fixed services.

The number of mobile phone users increased by 15.8% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 4.5 million.

The company saw its revenues rise by 19.1% in Q2 to €370.4 million.

Adjusted EBITDA was up6.8% to €120.5 million.

Revenues in Spain grew by 39.2% to reach €118.2 million, boosted by growth in fixed and mobile subscribers.

“The DIGI Group recorded solid results in the second quarter of 2022, with positive performances achieved in all markets in which we operate. We continued to expand our customer portfolio and revenues in the mobile and fixed service segments, although we faced a delicate economic situation in an uncertain international context,” said CEO Serghei Bulgac.

“At the same time, we are pleased to start a new chapter in our development – the opening of operations in Belgium in a joint venture with Citymesh NV and we aim to bring our attractive and competitive services to the Belgian market.”
