Streaming video devices in at least 70% of US homes

Over two-thirds of US households now own at least one streaming device, a new report has revealed.

According to a new whitepaper from Parks Associates, nearly 70% of the US owns at least one streaming video product that is connected to the internet. Some 56% of US broadband households now own a smart TV, with more than half of those households using their smart TV as their main device for streaming video.

The report goes on to note that more than 80% of broadband households have at least one streaming service and 49% have four or more services.

It concludes that 72% of broadband households are engaging in multiplatform streaming video viewing, and 40% are viewing on all platforms available to them

Paul Erickson, director, research, Parks Associates, said: “The streaming video market has experienced increased service usage, and consumers are watching streamed video content on multiple devices in the home and increasingly from multiple services. The role of streaming video across multiple platforms is more important than ever before in the entertainment mix for consumers.”
