Amlogic chipset revealed at heart of Sky Glass

Sky has revealed that a chipset provided by Amlogic is powering its new Sky Glass TVs.

Announced earlier this month, Sky Glass is the operator’s first foray into television set production. It removes the need for a set-top box and integrates the full Sky experience into a UHD TV with in-built Dolby Atmos speakers.

The new streaming TVs are, it has been revealed, based on Amlogic T962 series of chipsets, with Amlogic’s Hybrid RDK driver platform. Amlogic said that the chipset enables the TV to run all common OTT streaming applications as well as handle over the air DVB-T2 television signals and pay TV.

Trevor Neal, Vice President of Amlogic said “This is an important project for Amlogic as it showcases the high performance T962 TV chipset running RDK software. We are proud to be part of this project as it represents a real turning point in the industry.”

Sky has also announced the appointment of Panther Logistics as its exclusive delivery partner for the new TV system.
