Ohsung unveils new Android TV remote control reference designs

Gumi, South Korea-based electronics company Ohsung Electronics has teamed up with Google and Telink Semiconductors to develop a new range of Android TV OS reference design remote controls.

The new G10 and G20 Android TV OS reference design remote controls are now available.  Created in collaboration with Google, Ohsung Electronics says that the devices enable a much quicker time to market with an existing production ready design and incorporate the certified firmware that Google has developed with Telink Semiconductor Ltd.

According to the company, all aspects of remote-control development have been taken care of to ensure a quick product launch. The units come in production-ready case designs in two standard colours, with a fully integrated software solution, completed RF approvals for a significant number of countries across the globe, and are pre-certified to Google’s remote-control requirements.

Google has been working on a new reference design for its remote controls for a number of months. The company is this year transitioning from Android TV to Google TV as the brand for its TV tech offering.

The reference layout includes a new dedicated shortcut button for the Google TV watchlist feature along with buttons for Google Assistant and live TV. Ohsung’s version also includes dedicated buttons for YouTube and Netflix.
