Discovery+ to go live on VodafoneZiggo in Netherlands

Following its multi-country deal with Vodafone, Discovery has signed a new distribution agreement for its discovery+ streamer with Vodafone and Liberty Global’s Dutch joint venture, VodafoneZiggo.

The pair said that the new agreement would include continued carriage of channels including Discovery, Eurosport and TLC as well the introduction of lifestyle channel HGTV.

Discovery and VodafoneZiggo also said they would work together to make discovery+ available to customers of both Vodafone’s mobile offering and Ziggo’s fixed-line network in the Netherlands.

The distribution deal covers channels Discovery, TLC, Eurosport, ID, Eurosport 2, Discovery Science and Animal Planet, while HGTV will joint the operator’s standard package.

Dixcovery+ will be added to the operator’s Mediabox TV app store, enabling VodafoneZiggo customers to view the service from their TV and multiple other devices.

VodafoneZiggo said that its customers would be able to try discovery+ for a free trial period.

Raymond van der Vliet, director of content and programming at VodafoneZiggo, said: “We want to offer our customers the best and most complete viewing experience. That means easy access to their favourite content. We are very pleased with the expansion of our existing partnership, through which our customers can enjoy the Discovery channels. In addition, we look forward to working together to offer discovery + on our platforms. Discovery is a key entertainment partner, offering a wide variety of unique real-life programmes.”

Susanne Aigner, GSVP and GM of Discovery for Germany, Switzerland and Austria and the Benelux region, said: “We are thrilled to be able to announce this partnership with the largest provider of mobile and fixed networks in the Netherlands. VodafoneZiggo and Discovery have been working together for over 30 years, we are very happy that our strategic relationship continues to grow. This hybrid agreement advances our broader strategy to expand our linear distribution relationships to deliver our content to consumers across more platforms and devices. Thanks to this renewed partnership, our viewers and Ziggo customers will have direct access to the best international and local Discovery programmes whenever and wherever they want.”
