T-Mobile Austria adds new eSports channel to offering

T-Mobile Austria is the latest operator to announce that it is to carry new German eSports channel eSports1 on its UPC cable network.

The channel will be aired as part of UPC’s TV Top TV package. ESports1 is the first German-language eSports service and carries coverage of  League of Legends, Dota 2, Counter Strike, Overwatch and FIFA 19 competitions.

As in other markets, eSports1 will replace Sport1 US in Austria, with highlights of the latter channel to be integrated into the existing Sport1 channel in the future.

Vodafone Deutschland and UPC Switzerland have separately announced that they will carry the channel this week.

The launch of the pay TV channel on platforms in Germany, Switzerland and Austria follows an agreement this week between German sports outfit Sport1 and the German Football League, the SFL to ffer highlights from the latter’s Virtual Bundesliga eSports competition on its platform.

Sport1 has previously aired coverage of the VBL free-to-air on Sport1, but the live rights to this year’s season were awarded exclusively to ProSiebenSat.1.
