Ukraine’s Volia launches football SVOD service

Ukrainian cable operator Volia has launched a new subscription live and on-demand football service, Volia Football+, on the back of its agreement to secure Champions League football rights in the country.

The service allows subscribers to watch live and on-demand coverage of all UEFA Champions League and Europa League matches without advertising, with other content including reviews and highlights also to be make available.

Other options include viewing matches without commentary and the ability to view content both on TV and on mobile devices.

Volia said that the functionality of the service would be similar to its existing movies on-demand service.

The launch of the new service follows Volia teaming up with Media Group Ukraine to jointly secure rights to Champions League and Europa League football in the country for the next three seasons.

The deal was a first for Volia in the premium sports rights market, and the company described it as a milestone in the market for premium content in Ukraine.

The agreement, giving Volia and Media Group Ukraine’s Football 1 and Football 2 channels – the only Ukrainian premium sports channels – the rights to all Champions League and Europa League matches, brought the two tournaments to a potential audience of 15 million households across the country.
