Nordic pay TV operator Canal Digital has launched its Android-based next-generation TV service for satellite customers, OnePlace.
The OnePlace Android TV-based set-top box will provide access a range of TV and streaming services, catch-up content, on-demand movies, series and games and apps.
The commercial launch follows a press launch at the end of January. Canal Digital says that it has seen “vast” interest in the offering, with enquiries from new and existing customers.
“We are doing something we have never done before. We are moving from a closed solution, where customers only can view content provided by us, to an open solution based on Android TV. We call next generation’s TV experience OnePlace,” said CEO of Canal Digital Ragnar Kårhus.
“To meet today’s and the future’s user needs from our customers, a seamless access to both direct and streamed content is essential. With OnePlace, we can also provide our customers with personal recommendations on relevant content among the 28 000 titles we have available in our streaming services, in addition to what is on live TV.”
Canal Digital tapped 3 Screen Solutions to design and develop the UI for the hybrid service, which is UHD-capable and is available to Canal Digital subscribers in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.
