Shipments of 360-degree cameras are expected to quadruple this year, compared to last, according to Futuresource Consulting.
The research firm claims that 150,000 360-degree camera units were sold worldwide in 2015, representing 1% of total action camera sales.
In 2016 it predicts this will increase to 600,000 units, accounting for roughly 6% of overall action camera sales, with half of the 360-degree cameras to be sold in North America.
“While volumes will remain comparatively niche in the short term, the longer term outlook for 360 degree cameras is positive, accounting for 34% of the overall action camera market by 2020, 4 million 360-degree cameras,” said Futuresource.
