The director of BBC Children’s, Alice Webb, is to become the director of BBC North, taking on the role in addition to her existing responsibilities with BBC Children’s.

The BBC North job will see Webb oversee the BBC’s corporate activities and drive local partnerships across the region.

“I’m passionate about the BBC’s presence in the North and so proud of what we’ve achieved since 2011. BBC North is a thriving centre and I am determined to champion it inside and outside the BBC,” she said.

Webb helped to orchestrate the BBC’s move to its Salford home of MediaCityUK five years ago, overseeing the relocation of major BBC departments including Sport, Children’s and 5 live.

The BBC North role was previously held by Peter Salmon, who then become director of BBC Studios in July 2015. He recently left the corporation to take a job at Endemol Shine.
