Mediapro strikes BeIN Sports deal with Telecable

telecableFollowing similar deals with Vodafone and Orange, Catalan broadcaster Mediapro has struck a deal with Asturias region cable operator Telecable for the carriage of its new BeIN Sports channel, a joint venture with Qatar’s BeIN Sports group for the Spanish market.

The deal will enable Telecable to make a broad range of football content, including live coverage of Champions League and Europa League matches, as well as English Premier League, Serie A and Ligue 1 matches available to its subscribers.

Mediapro has yet to strike a definitive agreement to distribute BeIN Sports with Telefónica, which now controls the rights to Spanish domestic top-tier football.

Telecable was recently acquired by UK investment group Zegona Communications for €1.155 billion.
