Fox International Channels takes Tiger Mom

Fox International Channels has taken international broadcast and distribution rights to Tiger Mom, the upcoming China-produced comedy drama.

The show will debut on FIC’s Chinese entertainment channel Star Chinese Channel. It is made New Classics Media and FIC has brokered a deal with the China-based prodco for all international rights.

Tiger Mom follows a set of parents raising their daughter in modern-day China. As their daughter struggles in school the ‘tiger’ mother and less aggressive ‘cat’ dad as they attempt to get their offspring back on track.

FIC will sell it internationally and also put it out on several of its international channels. Fox said the deal is ‘a milestone for FIC in its roadmap to taking Chinese content global’.

China has become an importer of scripted and formatted content, but few projects from the country are successfully distributed internationally.

Cora Yim, senior VP of the Chinese Channels Group at FIC Asia, said: “It is our goal at FIC to bridge the gap between great Chinese content and the clear demand for it around the world.”

She added: “We have been steadily investing in Asian and Chinese channels and content for over two decades so we are in a great position to lead the charge in catering to this demand.”

Wang Qiao, International New Media Director of New Classics Media, added: “Through larger distribution networks, as well as more professional programme packaging and broadcasting methods, more audiences overseas will be able to enjoy authentic Chinese TV programmes, with values that shape mainstream Chinese culture.”
