Sochi events generate big online video peak

The opening ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympics drove more than 1Tbps of online video traffic across global CDN provider Akamai’s network, the company has revealed.

Other Olympics events have also generated peak traffic volumes, said Akamai

The combination of cross-country skiing and biathlon drove 1.3Tbps on February 7, while figure skating and snowboarding combined also drove 1.3Tbps.

Over 20 broadcasters are using Akamai’s network to deliver live and on-demand online video coverage of the games.
