Canal Plus and HBO have struck a deal whereby the latter will license all new HBO shows for the next five seasons on its premium, thematic pay TV and free-to-air channels.
The deal includes the second pay window rights and free-to-air rights to HBO series including Game of Thrones. Canal Plus has secured linear and on-demand rights to all shows, covering multiple screens.
Canal Plus has secured the exclusive first pay window rights to Pennsylvania-based drama Banshee, which will be aired on the Cinemax channel. Other series covered by the deal include comedy show Girls and news channel-based drama The Newsroom.
Separately, French pay TV service CanalSat is to add eight new HD channels to its line-up on IPTV services.
From April 9, CanalSat subscribers that receive the service via IPTV will be able to view Planète+ Thalassa HD, music channels MTV Base HD, MTV Idol HD and MTV Pulse HD, and Orange Cinéma Séries services OCS Happy HD, OCS Choc HD, OCS Novo HD and OCS Géants HD. The first four channels will also be available to CanalSat satellite customers.
