Agile Content to provide Euskaltel TV service as MásMóvil makes changes

Spain-based technology outfit and B2B2C service provider Agile Content has acquired the TV business of northern Spanish cable operator Euskaltel from the company’s new-owner, MásMóvil for a reported €32 million.

Agile Content already supplies TV services to MásMóvil’s Yoigo customers under the AgileTV brand. The company will now move its headquarters to Bizkaia in the Basque Country and open an innovation centre there, enabling it to better serve Euskaltel’s 500,000 TV customers across the region. Agile Content already has an office in the Basque Country in Bilbao.

MásMóvil and Euskaltel, which operates under the Euskaltel, R and Telecable brands in northern Spain and as Virgin telco in the rest of the country, have contracted Agile Content to supply TV services to the group for eight years in the first instance.

Agile Content said that the acquisition of the Euskaltel business was another step in its move to serve the market for OTT and TV services in Europe with a single comprehensive end-to-end solution and position itself as a partner for large global operators.

Hernán Scapusio, CEO of Agile Content said: “We begin this new stage with the transfer of our registered office to the Basque Country and the extension of the collaboration with the new MásMóvil Group as we aim to boost our growth in a clear commitment with the territory. We’ll also strengthen our strategy at the European level with our plans for a technological innovation centre in the Basque Country.

MásMóvil’s move on the TV front followed its reorganisation of Euskaltel’s management following the completion of its acquisition.

MásMóvil CEO Meinrad Spenger becomes CEO also of Euskaltel, with the latter’s Xavier Iturbe serving as president. Previous Euskaltel CEO José Miguel García will serve as an external adviser to the group.

The Euskaltel board now comprises nine members, with Beatriz Mato and Iñaki Alzaga serving as independent directors, joined by Providence representative Stefano Bosio, KKR’s Jorge Lluch and Cinven’s Miguel Segura, external director Josep María Echarri and executive director Germán López.
