France Telecom-Orange subsidiary GlobeCast has signed a multiyear deal to provide HD playout, uplink and satellite capacity for Arise News’ new HD channel.
Arise News is a recently launched 24-hour TV news network that broadcasts online and has a footprint in Africa and Europe. Arise News HD scheduled to launch today.
Content delivery firm Globecast will initially offer the channel to Sky viewers in the UK, via its fleet of Astra 2G transponders. It will then uplink the service to the Hot Bird satellite for distribution to DTH and cable headends in Europe.
Next year, GlobeCast will work to expand the channel’s distribution in Europe and to audiences in the US and Africa.
Arise News already has offices in London, New York, Johannesburg and Lagos and has plans to roll out additional news bureaus in Los Angeles, Washington D.C, Dakar, Nairobi, Dubai, Rio de Janeiro, Beijing and New Delhi.
