YouTube channel partner Rightster has acquired Preview Networks, a distributor of movie trailers online. Rightster said the acquisition would enable it to roll out additional services on YouTube across France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Nordic countries.
Preview Networks represents over 300 rightsholders and 2,500 publishers including Disney, MTV and Sony. Rightster said the deal would strengthen its position as a distributor of movie trailers alongside its existing sports, fashion and news channels.
Separately, Righster has been chosen by the Australian Football League to launch AFLTV outside Australia and New Zealand. Rightster will manage subscription packages as well as the technology required to provide footage of Australian rules football to computers, tablets and smartphones.
Rightster has also hired Scott Leishman, formerly with Skype, as global vice-president of talent and resourcing.
