TalkTalk to launch user trial of YouView next year

TalkTalk is to launch a ‘friends and family’ trial of the YouView hybrid broadcast-broadband TV service in the first quarter of next year, the company has revealed.

In an analysts update following its first-half results, TalkTalk said it would give about 3,000 YouView boxes from Huawei to trial the system. A public trial is now expected to launch towards the end of the UK ISP’s fourth quarter – meaning March – or early in the first quarter of its next financial year.

TalkTalk spent £4 million (€4.7 million) on developing YouView in the year and a half to the end of September.
TalkTalk said in its first half statement that YouView remained on track for launch in spring 2012.
