News Corp ups Premiere stake

News Corp has increased its stake in German pay-TV operator Premiere to 30.5% from 25%. The move marks the completion of a two-step €450m capital increase that was announced last December. Premiere CEO Mark Williams said the extra capital would enable the company to build successful pay-TV businesses in Germany and Austria.

Premiere sells Spox stake

German pay-TV operator Premiere has sold the 44% stake it owned in internet sports platform Spox.com to the CRESCES Group. Premiere said the decision was part of its strategy to focus on its core business, adding that future internet activities will be centralised under Premiere’s direct control.

Mediaset Premium to add film channel

Italian broadcaster Mediaset is to launch a new film channel on its pay-TV platform Mediaset Premium next month. Mediaset vice-chairman Piersilvio Berlusconi said Mediaset Premium had reached 3.3 million active cards and was continuing to grow. He said the company would focus on increasing its pay-TV offer, which launched in 2007.

Orange to broadcast football in 3D

Ono launches online EPG

Spanish cable operator Ono has launched an online electronic programme guide (EPG). The EPG includes expanded programme information for the next seven days for more than 150 channels. Users are able to configure the guide so it features their favourite channels. The EPG also includes information on more than 2,500 VOD titles.
