Short-form specialist Blackpills launches in Spain with Movistar

Telefónica’s TV, mobile and broadband service Movistar has teamed up with short-form mobile-focused content provider Blackpills to offer the latter’s service to its users in Spain.

Blackpills Movistar will be offered as an app that includes a selection of Blackpills content – short episodes of 15-20 minutes in length – allowing Movistar to stake a claim to be the first to enable its users to view this form of content as part of a subscription agreement in Spain.

Movistar customers can download the Blackpills Movistar app from the Google Play store. Some 15 titles are available at launch, including Virgin in Paris, Making a Scene with James Franco and Playground from Luc Besson, with two new titles to be added each  month.

The service is available for a monthly subscription of €2.99.

Movistar is also studying the possibility of offering the service through other channels and in other markets outside Spain.

“With this launch we are positioning ourselves to cater to a form of viewing that meets to needs of our customers. Furthermore we have wanted to be pioneers in the Spanish market hand in hand with Blackpills as creators of this type of content that has shown very good results in other countries,” said Borja de Nicolás, director of non-convergent value propositions at Movistar.

“With this agreement we are completing the rollout of our platform in Europe with Movistar’s users immediately having access to premium international short-form series dubbed in Spanish direct on their mobile phones. In this way Blackpills is confirming its position as leader in premium service for mobile and is proud to support Movistar in this new stage of its development,” said Patrick Holzman, CEO of Blackpills.
