Spanish pay TV penetration reaches 23.5%

Spanish pay TV penetration was to 23.5% in the second half of last year, compared to 66.9% internet penetration, according to domestic telecoms commission the CMT. 

In its latest report on Spanish consumption trends, the CMT found that pay TV penetration rose slightly compared to 22.8% a year earlier, with internet penetration climbing more that 6 percentage points from 60.6% last year.

Among those that opted not to take pay TV, 75.5% said their reason was that they had sufficient choice from pay TV.

In addition, just 5% of pay TV homes made video on demand or pay-per-view purchases that were billed separately from their main pay TV service. Those that did spent an average of €2.50 per month.
