Virgin Media upgrades WiFi guarantee to 30Mbps

Liberty Global and Telefónica-owned UK cabler Virgin Media O2 is upgrading its WiFi guarantee to offer customers minimum download speeds of 30Mbps in every room of their home, with a promise of £100 credit back if it fails to meet this threshold.

VMO2 previously promised minimum download speeds of 20Mbps. However, Virgin Media customers have now been promised 30Mbps in every room or money back for the same price.

The upgraded speed promise is available to all new and existing customers who take Virgin Media’s WiFi guarantee, with no need for existing customers to reboot their Hub or take any action for the updated minimum speed to apply, the company said.

Should customers see their download speeds drop to below 30Mbps, they can, if required, request up to three mesh WiFi Pods at no extra cost to help boost the connectivity around their home.

If they still do not receive 30Mbps or more, Virgin Media will add £100 credit to their next bill.

The guarantee places Virgin Media ahead of Sky’s WiFi Max guarantee of 25Mbps, with this service costing £10 a month.

Virgin Media’s WiFi guarantee is included in its Gig 1 broadband and all Volt bundles. Existing customers currently on M50 to M500 Fibre packages (without Volt) can add the guarantee for £8 a month.

Gareth Lister, director of connectivity at Virgin Media O2, said: “The sky really isn’t the limit at Virgin Media O2, which is why we’ve upgraded our speed promise at no extra cost so our customers can continue to enjoy the UK’s fastest WiFi guarantee. We’re always looking at ways to improve the experience we deliver, and with a boosted WiFi guarantee our customers can rest assured we’ve got them covered in every room.”
