Canal+ forges ‘historic’ partnership with AppleTV+

French PayTV platform Canal+ has unveiled a partnership with AppleTV+ that will see the streamer’s content become available as part of Canal+ subscription packages.

In effect, the deal means that Canal+ users will now get access to hit scripted shows like Severance, The Morning Showand Ted Lasso at no extra cost. The partnership commences in France on April 20, before rolling out internationally.

The deal was announced by Canal+ chairman Maxime Saada who called it: “a historic and multi-year agreement”. Sharing the news on Twitter, he added: “From Scorsese to Scott, from Aniston to Pitt, from Green to Cassel, AppleTV+ brings together the biggest stars on the planet. They deserve the very best platform.”

Under the terms of the deal, the majority of AppleTV+ shows will be streamed via myCanal but a select few like Foundation will air on the Canal+ channel. Saada said: “With this historic partnership, we are consolidating both our business as an aggregator, via the distribution of Apple TV+, and our business as a publisher, with the broadcast of Apple Original series on our Canal+ channel.”

The deal is part of a wider trend, which has seen most of the major global streaming platforms look for new ways to get their services to end users – with traditional PayTV platforms simultaneously seeking to reinvent themselves as aggregators.
