Warner Bros. Discovery’s Polish division TVN WBD has unveiled a partnership with Ringier Axel Springer Polska to relaunch the latter’s streaming service VOD.pl. Going forward, VOD.pl will be an AVOD platform carrying a broad range of WBD content as well as shows from other local and international programme providers.

The turbo-charged VOD.pl platform will be free of charge and carry 8000 hours of content at launch. Following WBD’s recent expansion into FAST, it’s another strong indicator that the US firm is looking to broaden its footprint beyond SVOD streaming.

Maciej Gozdowski, VP, head of streaming services at Warner Bros. Discovery Poland, said the free VOD.pl service “complements the paid digital offer of the group, which already includes HBO Max and Player.pl. I am extremely happy that in such a short time we managed to communicate with the RASP group and develop a partnership model in which RASP will support us in building the largest AVOD platform in Poland.”

Jovan Protic, COO of Ringier Axel Springer Polska, added: “We are pleased with this strategic cooperation. It will give new life to the VOD.pl service.”

The launch of the new edition of VOD.pl means new brand communication opportunities for advertisers, added Dorota Żurkowska, group SVP revenue at Warner Bros. Discovery in Poland. “The VOD.pl service gives the opportunity to reach an even wider group of users and perfectly complements the premium advertising offer represented by Player.pl. For the first time, marketers gain the ability to reach all users interested in video content and run their campaigns much more widely than before.”

Aside from WBD content, VOD.pl will include content from the likes of Paramount Global, Red Bull TV and Grupa Kino Polska/SPI International. At launch, the new version of VOD.pl will be available on computers, smartphones and tablets. In the future, the service will also appear as an application on platforms including smart TVs.
