Parrot Analytics: Stranger Things continues all-conquering run

Stranger Things 4

Netflix’s Stranger Things continued its all-conquering run as the most in-demand streaming original, this time in Spain for the week commencing August 14, according to Parrot Analytics latest research.

Parrot Analytics analyses the demand for recent popular digital titles across international markets, based on the application of artificial intelligence to expressions of demand across social media, fan sites, peer-to-peer protocols and file-sharing platforms.

Parrot’s dataset compares the demand that exists for each series in this market, against the average TV show. A difference of 1x represents the market average and 10x means a series is 10 times more in demand than the average TV show in this market.

As has become customary, Stranger Things recorded a score of 76.55 times the market average demand according to Parrot’s scale, placing it far ahead of nearest rival, The Boys, also from Netflix, which scored 18.21 times the market average.

Disney’s The Mandalorian was third-placed on the top 10.

Parrot’s top 10 list for the week in Spain also saw local original Venemo: Vida y Muerte de un Icono take the number four slot. The show, which details the life and death of transgender singer and TV personality Crtistina Ortiz Rodriguez or La Venemo, first aired on ATRESplayer in 2020 and is due to be followed by a sequel, Vestidas en Azul, later this year. Venemo was distributed internationally by HBO.

The popularity of local content in the Spanish market was also shown by the presence in the list of number five-placed El Cid from Amazon Prime Video and Netflix’s La Casa de Papel at number seven.

New shows in the list included Netflix’s The Sandman and Disney+’s She-Hulk, Attorney at Law. Steve Martin vehicle Only Murders in the Building from Hulu, distributed internationally by Disney+, appears at number nine.
