Sky extends Wimbledon partnership

Sky Deutschland has extended its partnership with the All England Tennis Club to broadcast the Wimbledon tennis championship and distribute the tournament on the internet, IPTV and via mobile in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Sky will continue to report live from the tournament in Wimbledon in Germany, Austria and Switzerland – including exclusively in Germany and Austria.

In addition to the exclusive live transmission rights via satellite and cable, the new agreement also includes distribution via IPTV, web and mobile.

Sky customers will be able to view the competition live via the mobile streaming service Sky Go in addition to the linear TV broadcast, whether at home or on the go. Tennis fans can also experience the entire tournament live via the Wow streaming service, which can be cancelled on a month-to-month basis.

Sky will be offering a dedicated tennis channel, Sky Sport Tennis, from July 14 with coverage of the ATP tour and other tennis highlights, including Wimbledon. The pay TV operator’s coverage of the ATP 250 tournaments will be extended.

Charly Classen, head of sports at Sky Germany, said: “With Wimbledon, we will continue to broadcast the world’s most prestigious tennis tournament exclusively on German-language television and continue to offer our customers the finest lawn tennis from the tennis highlight of the year. In addition, the new 24-hour theme channel Sky Sport Tennis offers fans everything a tennis heart desires. With the ATP Tour and Wimbledon, Sky remains the home of tennis.”
