HBO Max ranks highest for SVOD satisfaction in new consumer survey

HBO Max has the highest consumer satisfaction among the major US streaming services, a new report has found.

According to Whip Media’s Streaming Satisfaction Report of nearly 2,500 respondents, the Warner Bros. Discovery streamer leads the industry in terms of customer satisfaction witn 94% stating that they were satisfied or very satisfied with the service. 

Disney occupies second and third place with Disney+ and Hulu with 88% and 87% of consumers respectively saying they are satisfied. 

Netflix, ranked second in 2021, dropped to fourth place (with 80%), with customers citing discontent with price increases and a lack of perceived value. In spite of this, 31% of consumers said that Netflix would be the one streamer they would retain if they had to pick just one. 

The biggest increase for customer satisfaction was experienced by Apple TV+, which saw satisfaction increase by 14 points to take it above the likes of Peacock, Prime Video and discovery+.

Eric Steinberg, Whip Media’s media research and insights lead, said: “As an industry, we are heavily focused on subscriber counts and market share, but there is less coverage of how consumers perceive the platforms and their offerings. By exploring the satisfaction with specific elements of their product, the platforms, and their suppliers, can understand how to better serve their customers.”
