TelevisaUnivision reveals ViX+ launch date

TelevisaUnivision has announced 21 July as the launch date for its Spanish-language SVOD service ViX+ in the US and Mexico, and shared details about its initial content slate.

Its original series available at launch include scripted dramas María Felix: La Doña, based on the true story of the beloved actress and singer, La Mujer del Diablo, about an elementary school teacher with dreams of leaving her town to pursue a tourism career, and Texas-based true crime doc Mi Vecino El Cartel (aka The Cartel Among Us), which is from July Moon Productions and Blackfin, with pop star Selena Gomez attached as exec producer.

Other ViX+ originals will include Hierro, Pena Ajena (aka Cringe) and Rapa, while subscribers will also be able to watch global premieres of feature films including Mirreyes Contra Godinez 2, El Retiro and Enfermo Amor.

The service, which was first unveiled earlier this year, along with its AVOD sibling ViX, aims to debut with 10,000 hours of ad-free programming in its first year, and up to 7,000 hours of live sports. It will cost $6.99 per month in the US and MX$119 ($5.92) in Mexico.

Sport content will also be a key component of the ViX+ offering, with the service carrying more than 3,000 live soccer games per year from the US and Mexico, including exclusive live Liga MX matches.

“ViX+ will bring premium storytelling that raises the bar for Spanish-language content,” said Pierluigi Gazzolo, president and chief transformation officer of TelevisaUnivision.

“With the launch of ViX+, Spanish-language viewers will finally have a subscription streaming service with content that authentically reflects our culture. Together, ViX and ViX+ complement each other to create the largest Spanish-language streaming service in the world, with more than 50,000 hours of content and two experiences in one app, filling an important gap given there are nearly 600 million Spanish speakers around the globe.”
