M7 Group to integrate its platform into smart TVs across Europe based on HbbTV spec

Luxembourg-based pay TV operator M7 Group has announced plans to integrate its TV platforms into smart TV sets in what it describes as an industry-first.

The move will see users offered access to the full M7 pay TV platform via an app without the need for a set-top box or external streaming device. M7 said that the HbbTV solution is based on the integration of the M7 channel mechanism FST (Fast Scan Tables), full compliance with the M7 CAM (Conditional Access Module) on the MediaTek chipsets.

The app will begin its rollout in June on smart TVs from TP Vision, with plans to rollout on other major TV set manufacturers using MediaTek chipsets and the HbbTV standard 2.0.2.

M7 said that it will roll the solution out to all European markets in which the company is operating TV platforms across its full range of brands (except Online.nl in the Netherlands).

Hans Troelstra, CEO M7 Group, said: “With the integration of our SmartTV Apps directly on the smart TV chipsets produced by MediaTek, we are enabling true innovation while setting new benchmarks in simplicity and ease of operation of our apps on SmartTV’s. Because of our close cooperation with MediaTek, our customers can soon enjoy the most comprehensive TV viewing experience with M7’s Hybrid and OTT services on MediaTek Chipsets based on SmartTVs.”
