Freesat hires Peter Simpson as CTO

British free-to-air satellite TV platform Freesat has announced the hire of Peter Simpson as its chief technology officer.

In this role, Simpson will be charged with overseeing the product, engineering and operations teams in executing all of Freesat’s technology functions. He will also be responsible for the company’s overall tech strategy and lead project development on the launch of new services.

The exec joins from Freesat partner Commscope, where he served as VP of product management for the vendor’s international video business. Prior to that, he also held senior positions at ARRIS, Nokia, Cidiator, Pace and UK mobile operator Three.

Of the new CTO, Freesat managing director Alistair Thom said: “Having known Peter for some time and having worked closely together as we developed out new 4K TV Boxes, I’m confident that he will bring great industry knowledge and strategic vision to the Freesat team; not to mention the skills and drive to develop our platform and products in innovative new directions as we expand our business over the coming years.”

Simpson said: “I’m tremendously excited to be joining Freesat right now. Alistair and the team have laid the foundations of a dynamic company that is uniquely positioned in the market place and is laser-focused on how to be successful. I am raring to go and be part of the Freesat team that will achieve that.”
