Cyfrowy Polsat boosted by multiplay take-up

Over a third of Polish pay TV operator Cyfrowy Polsat’s contract customers now subscribe to a multi-play offering, with the company posting solid growth in the number of contract services sold in the three months to September.

Cyfrowy Polsat said that the number of multiplay customers increased by 220,000 year-on-year to end with two million, representing 35% of its contract customer base. The overall number of contract services sold increased by 3.8% year-on-year to 14.6 million, with mobule services up 7.5% to 7.8 million. Cyfrowy Polsat said that its TV base stood at five million, while its internet base was stable at 1.8 million.

Cyfrowy Polsat had 5.6 million contract customers at the end of September, with each customers taking an average of 2.58 services.

Prepaid customers to OTT service IPLA increased to 2.7 million.

The company posted revenues of PLN2.9 billion (€680 million) and EBITDA of PLN1 billion for the quarter.

Maciej Stec, VP for strategy, Cyfrowy Polsat and Polkomtel, said that Cyfrowy Polsat’s launch of of the Evobox OTT TV decoder had achieved “very promising sales results”. Stec also said that the company’s recently concluded JV agreement with Discovery to set up a joint OTT TV platform could “become a real alternative to international websites” in Poland.
