Magenta Telekom names ex-Liberty Global exec as CTIO

Deutsche Telekom’s Austrian subsidiary has named Volker Libovsky as chief technology and information officer.

Libovsky will be responsible for IT, network operations and convergent network expansion at Magenta Telekom, the new name of the former T-Mobile Austria following its acquisition of cable operator UPC Austria from Liberty Global.

Libovsky was previously chief information officer and VP of systems integration and M&A at Liberty Global’s European HQ, and has previously worked in various management roles at Liberty Global and its European subsidiaries, including Virgin Media and Unitymedia.

“Magenta Telekom represents the ultimate promise of digitisation in Austria.  Digitisation thrives on an excellent network and high-performance IT and the desire to be always better and faster than others. With Volker Libovsky we were able to bring a very successful manager to our team who not only combines experience in telecom and IT, but also always strives to find the best technical solutions. He is an ideal choice for us as an integrated communications provider, “said Andreas Bierwirth, CEO of Magenta Telekom.

“There is currently hardly a more exciting company in our industry across Europe than Magenta Telekom. Not only does Magenta offer incredible design freedom across all fibre optic and mobile technologies, it also has a great team that has proven it created an excellent digital infrastructure for Austria by winning two network tests. I’m also really looking forward to the big transformation in IT, which I and my team have to master in order to be able to better shape Austria’s digital future, ” said Libovsky.
